Shipping Label Printers NZ

A buyer's guide to 4" shipping and courier label printers for New Zealand dispatch — which printer to buy, how it compares with Zebra, Brother and Toshiba, and which label rolls and cores it takes. Works with NZ Post / CourierPost, Aramex, NZ Couriers, Post Haste, Starshipit and Trade Me.

Shipping label printers we sell

In stock and dispatched same-day across New Zealand. Prices exclude GST.

Direct thermal is the right choice for courier labels

Courier labels only need to last until the parcel is delivered, so direct thermal printing — heat darkens the label itself — is cheaper and simpler than thermal transfer. There is no ink, toner or ribbon to buy. Choose a thermal transfer printer only if you also print long-life product, barcode or asset labels.

Other brands NZ businesses use

Our courier label rolls run in every common 4" printer, so you can keep the printer you already own.

  • Zebra ZD220 / ZD230 / ZD421d: the most common desktop courier printers in NZ — 40 mm core rolls. Zebra compatible labels.
  • Zebra GK420d / GX420d: older but still widely used — same 40 mm core rolls.
  • Zebra ZT230 / ZT411: industrial dispatch on 76 mm core rolls.
  • Brother TD-4420DN / TD-4550DNWB: 4" direct thermal desktop printers — 40 mm core rolls.
  • Toshiba TEC B-FV4D / B-EX4: desktop and industrial options. Toshiba compatible labels.
  • Dymo 4XL / budget USB printers: fine for a few parcels a week, but slower, with costly proprietary rolls. A TSC DA or Zebra ZD is cheaper to run once you send more than a handful a day.

Common questions

What is the best shipping label printer in NZ?
For most NZ businesses a 4" direct thermal desktop printer is the right choice — no ink, toner or ribbon. The TSC DA Series ($375 + GST from ServiceLabels) is our best-value pick; the Zebra ZD220/ZD230 and ZD421d are popular alternatives. High-volume warehouses should step up to an industrial model on 76 mm cores, such as the TSC MB Series or Zebra ZT230.
What size labels do NZ courier printers use?
NZ courier networks print to 100 x 150 mm (4" x 6"). We stock 100 x 149 mm rolls (Aramex, NZ Couriers, Post Haste, Starshipit) and 100 x 174 mm rolls (NZ Post / CourierPost format with tear-off).
Which core size do I need?
Desktop printers (TSC DA/TE, Zebra ZD series, Brother TD-4) take 40 mm cores — 500 labels per roll at 100 x 149 mm, or 375 at 100 x 174 mm. Industrial printers (TSC MB, Zebra ZT) take 76 mm cores — 1,000 or 750 labels per roll.
Will a shipping label printer work with Starshipit, NZ Post and Trade Me?
Yes. Any 4" thermal printer with a Windows or macOS driver prints labels from NZ Post eShip, CourierPost, Aramex, Starshipit, Shopify and Trade Me. Set the label size to 100 x 150 mm in the courier software and the driver.
